PRACTICAL SHOOTING EVENTS
PISTOL & PRACTICAL SHOOTING COMMITTEE
Jody Baker - Co-Chair Phil Cathell - Co-Chair Ben Jorden - Summer Classic Match Director Elise Koch - Practical shooting, also known as dynamic shooting or action shooting, is a set of shooting sports in which the competitors try to unite the three principles of precision, power, and speed, by using a firearm of a certain minimum power factor to score as many points as possible during the shortest time (or sometimes within a set maximum time) https://practiscore.com/clubs/salisbury_gun_club |

What to bring: a handgun with at least THREE magazines (4 is better, especially if each one doesn't hold over 10 rounds), at least 60 rounds of ammo, ear and eye protection, (holsters and magazine pouches optional). Your handgun can be centerfire OR rimfire. We'll even take revolver shooters or PCC enthusiasts. All skill levels welcome, come on out to enjoy the shooting sports. Any of the following calibers are fine: .22LR, .380, 38 spl, 9mm, .40S&W, .45 ACP; (no magnums) 5th Saturdays of a Month (occasionally, not guaranteed): Pistol Bowling Pin Shoots or other style Pistol Shoots with prizes. Bowling Pin Shooting en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowling_pin_shooting. Bracket style, best an opponent in 2 of 3 matches and proceed to the next round. Sometimes we have a loser's bracket where you can fight your way back to the top. WINTER AR/CARBINE SHOOTS Beginning in November 2022, We are hosting occasional AR/Carbine/PCC shoots $10 per gun. Any semi-auto long gun with box mags is suitable! TWO GUN Think of a Pistol Match and Combine it with an AR Match, and you get Two Gun! Multigun matches involve shooting a course of fire that has both pistol and rifle targets on it. So you are timed during a stage while you engage targets with one, then switch to the other. Normally, there's only one switch between guns in a stage. Our first Match will have two stages; each will be about 15 shots with each gun. Rifle max 10 rounds in a mag. You will need to reload with each weapon during the stage. Our Two Gun Match will use HIT FACTOR Scoring. Our Inaugural Two Gun Match was September 3, 2023. |
INTRO NEW SHOOTER INFO! Our Events are great for newcomers to practical shooting to learn how to participate in events like these!
Safety
This club match has specific rules only for during the event. After the event, all regular range rules apply.
This is a cold range behind the shooting areas. Gun Handling is only to be done at the safe tables and on the firing line.
The safe tables are the white tables pointed at the berm. No Ammo or magazines at the safe tables.
If you do not have a good OWB kydex holster, then you need to keep your gun in a small case as you move up to or come off the firing line.
At AR/Rifle Matches, CHAMBER FLAGS IN YOUR CHAMBER AT ALL TIMES. (the club has chamber flags you can borrow for the day)
If you are on the pistol side of the berm or anywhere near the rifle side shooting area, eyes and ears are required.
While shooting, be mindful of the 180 and where your muzzle is pointed. No moving walking or running with your trigger finger inside of your trigger guards. Breaking the 180 or similar serious infraction will be a Disqualification!
At the end of a string, make safe your firearm BEFORE reaching down to pick up your ejected cartridge.
Lastly, be mindful of the weather. Don’t get dehydrated!
HELP
If everyone PATCHES as many holes on the targets as you POKE into the targets, the event will go smoothly and keep things moving! At sanctioned matches, 8+ people walk downrange after a string to help reset the stage for the next shooter.
The Courses
We have centerfire shooters, and rimfire shooters, and a few revolver and PCC shooters. We track gun type and sight type.
We have (2) stages, one on the Pistol side, one of the Rifle side here.
We have a lot of shooting to get through today. The people timing and scoring each side need shooters to reset the steel and tape the targets as a shooter finishes. The Shooter on deck, and 3rd up after current, need to be ready to shoot. And then ready to help tape after they are done.
Commands
Shooter Do You Understand the Course of Fire?
Load & Make Ready Shooter Ready? Standby
If you are finished unload and show clear if clear, slide down, [pull the trigger], & reholster or case your firearm STOP (if needed)
TWO TYPES OF SCORING
TIME PLUS: This is an IDPA-ish event. Stage Scoring is Time Plus penalties for inaccuracy, misses, or other penalties, total score is total time. (This is the monthly Pistol Shoot)
HIT FACTOR: POINTS DIVIDED BY TIME. (this is used for AR/CARBINE and TWO GUN, and maybe special PISTOL EVENTS)
